Gardner Ronnie Rig Kit Review – Is It Worth It?
When it comes to modern carp fishing rigs, the Ronnie Rig has become one of the most trusted setups in the UK. Known for its low-lying profile, strong hook holds and versatility with pop-ups, it’s no wonder The Gardner Ronnie Rig Kit promises everything you need to tie multiple rigs in one neat package – but is it worth your money? anglers are reaching for it more than ever.
I took it out on the bank to give it a proper test.
What’s in the Gardner Ronnie Rig Kit?
Inside the packet you get enough premium components to build nine Ronnie Rigs, plus a completed reference rig:
- 9 x Covert Dark Mugga hooks
- 9 x Hook stops
- 3 x Tungsten Ronnie sleeves
- 3 x QC Flexi-Ring Swivels
- 2 x Hook swivels
- 3 x Flexi bait screws
- 1 x Ready-tied Ronnie Rig
Straight away, the quality stands out. The Mugga hooks are razor sharp, the swivels are solid, and the tungsten sleeves sit flush – exactly what you’d expect from Gardner’s Covert range.
How Easy Is It to Use?
For anglers new to Ronnie Rig setup, the included ready-made rig is a brilliant guide. For more experienced anglers, it’s simply a time saver – everything is in one place so you can tie multiple rigs without rummaging through your tackle box.
The kit doesn’t include hooklink material, so you’ll still need to tie the hook sections to your chosen boom or leader. I also added a blob of tungsten putty just below the swivel for the slow sink rate I prefer – Gardner actually recommend this too.
On the Bank Test
I tied up three rigs with 15mm pop-ups on a gravel patch. Results were solid – three takes in one morning, all hooked in the bottom lip with no pulls. The Ronnie Rig’s reputation for secure hook holds held true again.
The tungsten sleeves helped pin everything neatly to the deck, and the bait screws made changing hookbaits quick and easy.
Pros and Cons
Pros:
✅ All-in-one convenience (9 rigs from one pack)
✅ Premium components (Mugga hooks, Covert hardware)
✅ Cost-effective compared to buying parts separately
✅ Reference rig helps newer anglers
✅ Performs brilliantly on the bank
Cons:
⚠️ Still need putty for fine-tuning
⚠️ Only one hook size per kit
⚠️ No hooklink material included
Verdict – One of the Best Carp Rig Kits UK
The Gardner Ronnie Rig Kit delivers exactly what it promises: a quick, reliable way to build one of the best carp rigs available today. It’s not 100% complete – you’ll need hooklink and putty – but the value, quality, and convenience make it a smart buy for any angler.
Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5/5)
If you’re after a carp rig kit in the UK that saves time and delivers confidence on the bank, this is well worth adding to your tackle bag.
